How In The World Do We Decide?

"We inherited a severe recession form our predecessor and we acted quickly to reduce the unacceptably high levels of unemployment and to stimulate the economy. It's working." Sound familiar? These words were taken from the Democratic platform for the 1980 Presidential Election! In the same election, the Republicans were going to: reduce taxes; fix welfare; deal with healthcare and education; address veterans benefits; deal with women's rights; and protect your privacy!

That's right! The candidate near you was promising to fix these problems - 32 years ago - and they are still not fixed. But hey, if they fixed these things what would they run on in the next election? Worse yet, what would all of these talking heads and pundits who appear 24 hours a day, have to talk about? Wow, heaven forbid some of them might even have to get a job.

Have you ever wondered how much these 20 something party spokespersons are paid? After all one only needs to memorize the faxed memos you get in the morning, appear on one of the many, endless cable news shows, and recite the words by rote with facial emphasis that will convince the audience you really believe the dribble you are spewing! The more believable you are, the more you will be invited. There are usually two of them on at once,  fair and balanced you know, and the segment ends with "great debate, guys".  I've often wondered if these pundits and spokespersons really knew more than those actually running for office why they didn't get in the race themselves. Probably below their pay grades!

I'm speculating on all this because my daughter asked me if voting for these two candidates wasn't really a vote to choose between "two evils" and I didn't have a good answer. She also wondered about sending a message by voting for a third party candidate. Unfortunately, this strategy usually results in the Third party helping one or the other major candidates win. How then do we decide who we will support for office? Well, if you live in a red state or a blue state you don't have a choice according to the polls and the pundits! It's already ordained who will win in those states. Wow! Doesn't that bother you? It does me! If true, then the election will be decided in only a few "battleground states". But wait a minute, there are certainly "red folks" and "blue folks" whose votes are already decided then who ..... oh, independent voters in those states will decide. So let me get this straight, a few people in a few states like Iowa and Missouri will decide who is to be our President? Make sense to you?

What does it take to make you angry anyway?

If you want an example of your choice this time, read the attached Bloomberg article on the plans offered by your next President!

A Government of the ...........?

The founders gave us  The Declaration of Independence upon which they based The Constitution despite what progressives like President Obama believe. Their words "governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed", were interpreted by Abraham Lincoln, In the Gettysburg Address as "government of the people, by the people, and for the people". Obviously, the founders were determined to create a government that would work for the people not the one we seem headed toward. Read the following article and ask yourself who works for who.

What will they do next?

There are people who vote democrat and others who vote republican no matter who their party is offering as a candidate. They vote party, as did their parents before them. One wonders whether this is appropriate in view of our country's circumstances today, but it is their absolute right to do with their vote as they wish. Both parties seem to regard these voters as their base and they seem confident they will be able to hold or control those votes. Unfortunately, this is probably true. In fact, these particular voters may be a primary reason why we seem to be offered "the worse of two evils candidates" in each election cycle. Each party  nominates someone who their media pollsters tell them will appeal to those voters who are not strictly "party voters" since they feel very comfortable in taking their party voters for granted. If you pay any attention you have probably noticed there seems to be very little difference in most of the candidates that are offered for your consideration. This is probably the same reason we hear about "the issues" in every election. Curiously, these "issues" always seem to remain the same.

In my view, this is the first election, in my lifetime, which will test whether we really want self government or are content to go back to being taken care of by those who know better, are smarter than we are, and generally better suited to look out for our interests than "us ordinary folks"! In the middle 18th century our ancestors faced a similar choice and stepped up to take control of their own destiny. They had to fight and die for their choice, we only have do our homework, choose the future we want, and go to the polls to cast our vote for the candidate we think will get us on that path.

Sounds simple? It's not, if we continue on the "business as usual" path we have been on. How do we decide which path we want to follow. Many of us religiously follow CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, others swear by FOX News, and some even watch network news. They will tell us like it is, NO, they will tell us what they want us to hear, more accurately, what will entice their listeners to buy the products they sell. Yeah but O'Reilly, O'Donnell, Mathews, or those folks at NPR will tell us like it is. Unfortunately, there is so much competition for the chance to sell you something, yes NPR is selling also, even the talking heads will tell you what they think, not what it really is.

This election is too important to base a decision on a single point of view which may or may not be the actual truth of the matter but instead, part truth and part scripted. Frankly, none of us can be sure we are getting the truth, in fact, we might question what the media presents to us as facts. In today's world the only thing we can rely on is that everyone has their own agenda, that journalistic neutrality is a thing of the past.

You have to do your own research. Find out for yourself what is going on, NOT what you are being told is going on. Ask your Doctor, or his nurse, what they think of the "Affordable Care Act". Ask a small business owner if he thinks he will hire more people in the near future or expand his or her business. Above all, don't believe the polls which are constantly telling you what YOU believe. Remember polls are only as good as the questions being asked of the people who are selected to answer.

I the end you are in a similar position as a person in 1776, you have to choose how you want to live the rest of your life. Please Choose Wisely!

I Bet You Thought You Voted For Obama!

You probably didn't realize when you pulled the lever or marked you ballot for Obama you were really voting for Kathleen Sebelius, but every action has consequences. When the Democrats were jamming Obamacare down our throats none of us had an accurate picture of what was really going to happen if this "hollow shell" of a law was approved. We are naive enough to believe our legislators actually create our laws. Instead, they approved a bill "that had to be passed so we would know what was in it"; one that a congressman (?) questioned why he should read it since it was not something he would understand anyway. Wow, talk about "opening the door"!

In their infinite wisdom, those we elect and send to Washington to protect our interests passed a bill designed to allow a progressive appointee, Sebelius, almost absolute power over your life, and more important to those my age, you death, page after page simply says to be decided by the secretary. One might say "and you ain't seen nothin yet"! One of the initial steps in taking away YOUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS is a mandate forcing businesses to cover birth control devices in their employee insurance programs:

Freedom of Religion? For Who?

Oh, you will have a choice Mr Businessman, follow this "regulation" or pay massive fines, oops I mean taxes, amounting to hundreds of dollars per employee which would be crippling for most small businesses. It sounded to me that Obama said  "if you have a small business you didn't build it" yet he claimed that's not what he meant. I agree, he probably wanted to say "you didn't build it, and you don't run it either"! It's no wonder small businessmen are "sitting on their hands" and wondering what this man will do to them next.

If this administration can so easily ignore the religious freedom of thousands of people, what action will the "Secretary" take when she faces the coming shortage of Doctors to handle all those new Medicaid patients. Probably not a great time to be in  "your golden years"!
