Sleight of Hand

Pick a card.........
.....and watch the skilled magician shuffle the deck and riff the cards. Even if you watch the movement of the cards carefully you will never see how your card suddenly appears from behind your ear. Wow! How is it done? It must be magic! No, it's called sleight-of-hand. The success of any magician rests on the ability to get the audience to watch one hand while the other actually performs the "trick". In other words, the magician relies on some sort of diversion to hold your focus away from what is actually taking place. It is an illusion, the magician is an illusionist.

You and I are being treated to one of the greatest magic shows of all time. This performance comes directly from Washington or a State Capital near you and stars those you have "elected" as your representatives. Our attention is being directed to the hand holding out health care for everyone; repairing the damage we are doing to Mother Earth; or creating more jobs to rebuild our economy; while the other slips into our pockets for more money to increase the size of government and insure the performers will be brought back for another show.

The real illusion is the belief these people have the slightest interest in fixing these problems in the first place. These are merely "props" and no illusionist will give up any of his or her "props". If the secret of the trick were revealed, there would be no interest in bringing the illusionist back for another show.

We either need to find another form of entertainment or sew up our pockets!
