"the American people want......"

Have you ever been asked by one of these blowhard politicians or their minions what you want or think? I know I haven't and it angers me when I hear one of them pontificate about what the American people want or think. Where do they get off telling us what we want when, in my view, not one of them has a clue or even gives a damn what we think.

Franklin Roosevelt cautioned us to "never underestimate a man who overestimates himself" and most of those "serving" their country in elected or appointed office certainly fit this description. It seems the act of getting elected, even though the amount of money poured into a campaign is vastly more important than the ability of the candidate, creates an instant expert in everything. It seems gaining office also makes one clairvoyant and allows the reading of ordinary folk's minds. I say ordinary folks because these "public servants" live in a different world than you or I could envision let alone share, unless of course, we were one of the television talking heads that cover them.

Besides having access to a substantial sum of money, there are a number of other qualifications you must meet before even being considered as a viable candidate for office. Since you can be asked to appear in front of a camera at any time you must get out of bed every morning with a new haircut and freshly cleaned and pressed suit. For men, this years leadership statement seems to be a white shirt and blue tie. Since I am not up on dress codes for our female politicians I will simply point out the importance of proper makeup and hair styling at all times. It is absolutely critical for all politicians to look the same every day, except for their oufits of course. I've always wondered if they stood all day since their trousers or skirts never show any wrinkles. Obviously, they must carry folded statements written by their staffs which will be approprate for any subject that might arise. It is imperative they be folded so they can make a big show of unfolding it as they step to the camera.

As you have probably surmised I have little, or no, respect for any of these clowns. What little respect I did have has disappeared with these "over the cliff" negotiations which are the darlings of cable tv. Obviously, most people are not paying attention or they would be telling their representatives what they REALLY think. Oh well, everyone will pay attention when their taxes go up; their income, if they are lucky enough to have a job, goes down; and EVERYTHING they have to buy, or pay for, gets more expensive!

It seems there are more and more times when I feel very sorry for those under 30.
